Thank you for choosing Antalya College, our now three decades long mission has been to "prepare the World Citizens of tomorrow". To ensure that the eight years of elementary education that our students pass through in our institution are successful and happy, we must have a successful and harmonious partnership between the student and the school. Since it's foundation, Antalya College has placed a great deal of importance upon the learning of foreign languages. Individuals have the chance to springboard their foreign language ability from an early age with eight hours of English lessons in Pre-school, then in 1st, 2nd and 3th grades increasing to 10 hours, after which there are 11 hours of English in the 4th grade and then in 5th, 6th, 7th grades 10 hours of English; then in 8th grade there are 8 hours of English; all of which are taught by a mixture of native speakers and Turkish-English teachers.
At the beginning of the 2nd grade, our students start to learn their second foreign language as they begin to receive two lessons of German a week; progressing to three hours in the 4th and 5th Grades and then ultimately 4 lessons a week throughout the 5th to 8th grade.
Students being enrolled in 1st grade have to pass the "School Maturity Test". Students seeking to be enrolled in higher-level classes have to pass the "Level Determination Test". Composition of each class is based on students success and balance of male-female students per class.
All classes are taught and performance evaluated in the same manner through the common exam system. A commision of at least three teachers prepares the tests According to these results, measures are put into place to remedy deficient areas of education and deter their possible continuation.
Starting from 1st grade of Elementary School, students begin to be prepared for the SBS (Goverments Level Determination) test. Upon reaching the 6th, 7th and 8th grades an additional 4 hours of SBS preperation is provided for free every Saturday.
Our school seeks not to deal with crisis but anticpate problems in advance through our counselling system which seeks to problem-solve prior to issues developing too far.
Teachers from both the Primary and Secondary schools meet together with a school counsellor to discuss, evaluate and exchange information regarding our students pychological and personal developmental needs pursuant to attaining their needs for ongoing success.
Alongside our students academic careers, they also have four hours of club activities per week. These activities include being involved with theater performances and participating in exhibitions.

Counselling and Psychological Consultancy Unit
|
|
The main goal of Counselling and Phychological Unit is to be a support system to improve students capabilities to participate at the highest levels of education while coaching them to develop their talents and abilities as related to their areas of interest. To understands the problems surrounding him and resolve them with appropriate measures.
Our Guidance and Phychological Consultancy Unit monitors the emotional, psychological and social development of the student and tries to keep it well balanced with special emphasis placed on creating a nurturing environment that is trusted but neutral. These services are available for students, parents and teachers alike. The unit seeks to support the student in resolving their individual problems and their ultimate socialisation in society, guiding them in the right direction. Some of our activities include:
Mentoring the student into how best they can improve their academic success through tests, seminars and facilitating their participation in social activities.
Our unit improves student problem-solving capabilities anger-management, improvement of communication skills, self-expression, decision-making descisions, interpersonal relationshipo development, how to take responsibility etc…

Perform character-development training.

In our primary school, the counsellors conduct a bi-weekly lesson called ‘’Consideration Classes’’ the aim of which is to improve their creativity and help them develop problem-solving skills.
Career interests of students are supported by vocational visits to workplaces, sharing information in the class room and visiting educational institutions.
Individual and group counselling sessions are also held on a regular basis with the intent to discover areas of interest and talents that will assist the student to select appropriate clubs and hobbies for themselves to develop in those areas.
Students are also Introduced tho the practical meanings of Democracy and Secularism as part of their participation in school elections to elect a Prime Minister and Parliament. These are some of the areas covered by our Guidance and Psychological Consultancy Unit.

Parental Partnership Expectations
|
|
• Report any inability of the student to attend classes on the same day to the appropriate school vice-principle.
• Forward the doctor`s note to the School Administration within 3 days.
• Ensure students arrive on time and do not turn late-arrival into a habit.
• Report all changes in address and telephone numbers to the Vice Principles.
• Sign and return all documents which were sent to parents either via post or given to the student by hand.
• Monitor that students bring only the neccesary materials for the classes that they are participating in. Ensure that inappropriate items such as mobile phones and make-up are not brought to school.
• Ongoing atttendance is a requisite for successful education and thus it is necessary to ensure that the student remains on-campus at all times.
• The dress code must be adhered to and parents can facilitate this part of our partnership by ensuring students are appropriately attired.
• Parents are liable for all damages caused by the student to school and other student’s property at school.
• Although the student should be provided some allowance for day-to-day expenditure, the school cannot be held responsible for loss of such or other property.
• Parental cooperation is appreciated where students are assigned for duties that represent the school.
• We do request that where famillial or student health issues occur, these matters are reported as soon as possible to a school Vice Principle.
• The student is responsible for compliance with the school rules and regulations.
• At home, the student requires to have an appropriate working area in which to plan and execute how to complete their educational workload.
• Student need to be trusted unconditionally to complete their work while being provided contructive criticism where necessary.
• Antalya College, its teachers and Counselling Unit are always ready to assist you, the parents.

• Attending classes on time.

• Pat respect to the fact that although we may in a break, other classes may still be in one and thus ensure being as quiet as possible within the area of their class and stairways.
• During breaks and at lunchtime only play sports in designated areas such as those in the playground.
• Leaving the classroom during all breaks.
• During all breaks acting according to the "student on duty rules".
• Ensure orderly behaviour in publicly used areas.
• Avoiding speaking too loudly, being disrespectful or littering.
• Not to leave school without prior permission from the School Administration whatsoever.
• Behave accordingly to the rules and regulations during examinations.
• Forwarding all documents given by the administration to the parents.
• Actively participating and being responsible for club and other duties for which an active role or duty has been given.

Morning Register
|
|
Within the first 10 minutes of the first lesson, the teacher will perform a registration of the students in class. including a check of the dress code. Although a student who arrives after the first ten minutes will be admitted to class, they will be posted as a late arrival and hence potentially sent to the administration. Should the same student continue to be late for class, their situation will be referred to the school administration for further discussion.

Communications with Parents
|
|
The Antalya College system of parental communication includes written notifications through, telephone, e-mail, mobile phone, SMS, letter notice, public notifications and the Antalya College web site.
Parents mobile phone numbers are kept upto date in accordance with the last parental communication to inform of any changes in the system.
Long and important communicatons will be forwarded by the student to the parents by letter and also notified via SMS.
Letters to the parents are also published as bulletins in the website of Antalya Koleji.
The e-mail address of our school is info@antalyakoleji.k12.tr All the e-mails will be answered within one working day from the required unit.
Parents may obtain a pin code to have access to all important information about their child published on the Antalya College web site.
Students notes, attendance, examination days, parents-teacher meetings, weekly lessons etc…can be obtained from this web site.
Every teacher has a published day and time that is set-aside for meeting with parents. Either call ahead or turn-up. We will be happy to meet you.

Utilization Rules of Student Transportaion
|
|
From the moment that a student of our school gets on one of our service vehicles to the moment that they get off of it, they are considered a part of the school. All behaviour throughout which is considered a part of the schooling process.
The student cannot stop or get-off the vehicle wherever wanted whether to go shopping or do something else.
The student cannot request loud music in the transportation vehicle.
Students who disobey rules and regulations or misbehave in the transportation vehicle will be exposed to the same procedure as that practiced in the Published Misdemeanours as expressed in the M.E.B(National Education Ministry).

Using Computers at the School
|
|
Computers within the school, libraries, Laboratories and in any other place cannot be used for games and can not be occupied by any singular user for an unlimited time.
Any malfunctions must be reported for correction to the IT center.
All computers will be turned off after close-of-business at Antalya College.

Awards
|
|
All students can be rewarded by Antalya College on the basis of Awards for their achievements in academics, sports, social activities, culture, artistic endeavours, English and other fields.
Award teams determine the rewards on basis of achievement. Any such forwarded recommendations of achievement are forwarded to the Quality Control Unit and with the approval of the Excecutive Committee will be appropriately awarded.

Student's Health
|
|
While at school, the student canl be treated for any kind of illness by the school doctor. Should such be necessary, parents will be notified and where required the student can be transfered to another health organisation for treatment.
İt is important that students using antibiotics should remain at home during the period of infection.
Where the student is unable to attend school for a certain period, an appropriate Doctor’s note must be forwarded to the appropriate vice-principal within 3 days.
Vaccinations as performed by the Ministry of Health at school are done under the full supervision of our personnel and with the permission of our parents.

Traveling
|
|
Any travel activities within the provincial limit of Antalya will be published in the Fridays Post and a prior signed permission confirmation is received from the parents.
Any travel activities outside of the province or city limits require prior permission from the local Ministry of Education Authority for Education one month before. All expenses will be calculated from the required department and the travel cost (travel, lodging, etc.) will be published.
Travel fee and the written permission of the parent must be forwarded to the Accounting Office. The right for travel out side of provincial- city limits is determined on a first come first served basis.
Traveling outside of the country requires examination bythe Excecutive Commitee about it’s pupose and suitability for the school and students. Cost and services from diffrent operators will be compared. After the approval of principles and branch leaders an organizer with English language will be determined.

Security
|
|
All parents and visitors must leave an ID at the security office before entering the school, this is very important for the security of our students.
No vehicles are allowed within the campus unless they are official or are service vehicles for students.
Students can only be picked up with their parents or by prior consnet as given to a determined person to the school. Without written permission of the parents no exception can be made to this rule.
Parents are kindly requested not to remain in the corridors, interrupt lessons or to observe classes for the sake of their own children. In case of an emergency please contact the vice principles and the administration for student affairs.

Weekend Activities
|
|
Weekend activities are conducted on Saturdays between 9.00-10.30-10.45-12.15-12.30-14.30 and are available for all students from 1st to 8th grade.
All sportive activities like basketball, volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, ice skating, golf, horse riding etc.. are designed on a 30 week basis.
Parents of the partizipants must fill in the appropriate forms during the first few weeks of the educational year.

Whole Day Summer Schools
|
|
After an exhausting educational year we provide this whole day school during summer time for our students. The students have the time to participate in regular sports, arts and talent-discovering activities. Making friends for a life-time during summer vacations is very important for them. Playing in a team and having proper nutrition will change their lifestyle.
The whole day schools are between 8.30 and 17.30 daily and based on 2 week periods of which there are 4 or 5 during each Summer.

For the 19th of May Youth and Sports Holiday our traditional preschool and first grade student-parent events take place. At this time of the year we also have our Carnival at Beach Park. Our entire school takes part with any number of events along with competitions, sports and dances.

Music Lessons
|
|
Music is part of the psychological, physical and mental development of the student and Antalya College seeks to see recreational time used in a qualitative manner while enjoying the pastime of music.
During Elementary school, music lessons are conducted based on the ORFF methodology. This method has been proven as the very most effective way to develope students feeling for rhythm. Once at 3rd Grade, the students start to study using the ORFF methodology combined with playing the Melodica.
At each level of development, we improve the ability of the student to participate not only singly but also as part of a team. All students are made to actively partizipate in music lessons.
A variety of teaching techniques are practiced during music lessons. Analysing, questioning, discussion, explanations etc… are only a few of them… our main goal is to inculcate the habit of listening to quality music and playing a musical instrument. They should be knowledgeable about all kinds of music and should have an ear that makes them understand the relationship between music, learning and self expression.

How to think and yet understand while learning to respect other opinions – thes are the purposes of philosophical eduation. The interconnectivity between mathematics, science, technology, sociality and Turkish must also be understood.

Nutrition
|
|
The monthly menu is prepared by the Chef and then presented by the Personnel Department to the Board for approval. The approved menu is posted to our school website and also at the entrance to the refectory. The menu is prepared under the watchful eye and review of a dietician ensuring that it meets the daily calorie intake of our students, utilising the best quality of ingredients and served by the chef and his team underhygienic conditions.

Library Rules
|
|
Open: From Monday to Saturday.
Times: From 08:30 – 17:30 Monday to Friday and from 08:30 – 12:00 on Saturday.
Every Antalya College student is an automatic member of the library.
Students may borrow one book at a time and may not borrow another until they have returned it; each book may be kept for two weeks.
Other students / persons may not borrow books on behalf of someone else.
Lost or damaged books or publications must be replaced by the student / person who borrowed it.
Unless having received written permission from a teacher or a member of the administration, no student may enter the library during regular lesson times.
Usage of cellphones within the library is not allowed.
No food or drink are allowed to be brought into the library.
Everyone within the library is obliged to ensure quiet is maintained.

Attendance – Abstenteeism – Lateness
|
|
Attendance Obligatory: According to the 25th clause of the MEB (National Ministry of Education’s) Elementary School Ordinance, students are obligated to attend and the responsilbility for said attendance is that of the parent to ensure: within the same ordinance, the 26th clause requires that any student who even having attended the first lesson but misses one or more others is deemed to have missed half a day of school.
Attendance Rating: Within the same ordinance’s 27th clause, Elementary educational institutions, students are also obligated to attend.
Lateness: The same ordinance ’s 30th clause addresses lateness and warns ‘’students who start to make a habit of being late or leaving classes without permission are to have preventitive measures placed upon them and this should be facilitated by a union of the parent, teacher, school counsellor and psychological counselling unit.’’

Evaluation of Students Success
|
|
Student success is evaluated based upon clauses 32 and 33 of the MEB Elementary Ordinance. Accordingly, Student success is based on observing performance of the below mentioned elements:
- Evaluations made throughout the school year composed of two continuous semesters.
- Measurement and evaluation of success is based on achieving the special and general aims as defined in the lesson program.
- Measurement and evaluation is based on the union of school, province and country in defining aims.
- Student success: ‘’is arrived at by points given to exams, projects and students level of determination’’.
- Students application of themselves in activities and evaluation of their participation in the classroom must be made.
- Evaluations are also made of students participation in lessons and other activities within which they are given duties.
- Success of evaluation should also contain assessment of cognitive, sensory, social and psychomotorabilities.
- Measurement of success also requires assessment via all possible measurement tools and methods that evaluate critical and creative thought processes, research, investigative abilities, problem-solving and similar skills.
- The success rating of the student should be measured utilizing current and acceptable vehicles. According to each specific area being measured, an answer key and graduated point key or control list should be used.
- Coalesced education – where teachers have ongoing students, they should prepare a personalised education program (BEP). These students are evaluated based on their performance based on the developed program.

Evaluation by Mark & Grade
|
|
Teachers utilize exams, projects and performance tasks as part of the measurement and evaluation process.
Private schools measure the success of students via exam performance and that as encapsulated in their personalised education program.
Exam and student performance are measured on a scale out of 100. Performance evaluation is defined by the teacher and school report on a scale of 1-5.

Semester grade, year-end grade, year-end success rating and diploma gradeare calculated on a scale of 100; should the semester and year-end grade be a 5, then according to the system and ordinances, such should be given. According to the 5 point scale, 4 is Good whereas a 1 is a fail.
Those who do not participate in Measuring Performance: Within the same ordinance, the 38th clause is applied. According to this: If for whatever reason a student does not participate in exams or give-in performance homework on-time, the parents should be informed. The parent of the student should provide a written explanation of the reasons for having not had their child participate in exams or hand-in performance homework on time. In the case of handicapped students, the teacher should inform the student of an upcoming lessons requirement and explain what is necessary to complete it. This performance evaluation may be given outside of the regular class time. Students are required to provide all projects and other performance homework within the given amount of time.
Students who are not in any way handicapped to enter exams, complete projects or performance homework, cannot be given a grade. They can purely be assessed on the mathematical average of the work that they have done.

Courses
|
|
We hold courses for 6th - 7th and 8th grades on Saturdays between 9:20 and 12:30. These courses cater to the students' individual needs and are free. These courses greatly improve students' performance. Parents are expected to support and encourage their child's attendance of these courses.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Development and Reward of Student Behaviour
|
|
|
According to the 105th Act of the regulations of The Ministry for Educational Institutions, according to The Ministry of Education for students in public and private primary institutions, reward, monitoring, evaluation and development activities are carried out in cooperation between the students, parents, teachers and administration.
If necessary, these development activities are also carried out in cooperation with the school's counselors.

The way in which students are expected to behave
|
|
|
According to the 106th Act of the same regulations, the following are expected of students;
a) to attend school and classes regularly and to continue to be successful,
b) not to forget that all students of the school are members of the Turkish society and Turkish Republic who have the same rights , thus, showing respect to everyone is a must,
c) to be tolerant and respectful to teachers, school administrators, school staff, their friends and any other people at school,
d) to be truthful, honest and trustworthy,
e) to be polite and well mannered,
f) to participate in all the school’s social and cultural events and activities,
g) to love and to care for books and to read on a regular basis,
h) to protect the natural and historical beauty of the environment around them, to protect works of art and to contribute to their development,
i) to work hard to accomplish a good standard of work, to have good time keeping and not to forget that wasted time cannot be regained,
j) to protect national property and their school as if they are their own,
k) not to smoke, drink alcohol or use other addictive substances, and to avoid anything which is harmful to the environment,
l) not to be involved in any divisive, destructive, or politically motivated organizations which threaten the unity and integrity of the nation and not to display, posses or distribute any political symbols, such as emblems, banners, or badges which may disrupt the country’s peace,
m) to use their physical, mental and emotional strength for the benefit of their people country and humanity.
n) to follow Atatürk's principles and avoid any other contradictory behavior,
o) to behave according to the laws, regulations and ethical rules of society and national, spiritual and cultural values.

Applicable Sanctions in the case of Negative Behaviour by Students
|
|
In accordance with the 108th Act of the same regulations, elementary school, 6th-7th and 8th grade students who misbehave may be reprimanded, receive a warning or if necessary, asked to change schools. The aim of these sanctions is to keep order within school, to make students aware of their own behavior and to create a positive attitude. Taking into account the fact that students are developing, we apply a warning process to raise awareness of their behavior. The warning process is explained in detail below;

a) Warnings
|
|
1) Verbal warnings; the teacher starts a negotiation process with the students. This aims to make the student understand the cause of their negative behavior and students are expected to understand the consequences of misbehavior. In the case of the continuation of misconduct, students should be warned about the possible sanctions they may receive.
2) Signing a contract with the student; if the student continues to misbehave, despite being warned, there should be a meeting between the student and the teacher. As a result of this meeting, the student should sign a contract stating that they have agreed to improve their behavior. (Appendix - 10)
3) Interviews with parents; If continuation of the same transgretion occurs, the school invites parents to school. With the involvement of one of the school administrators, the parents are informed about possible sanctions for the misbehavior of the student. If the parents don’t participate in the meeting a written report will be prepared. After this process, if the problem continues and cannot be resolved, the teacher involved prepares a file including the written report and sends this file to the evaluation board.

b) Censure
|
|
This process involves the school administration warning the student about sanctions and that they should avoid the repetition of their misdemeanor.

c) Changing Schools
|
| The student is sent to another school to continue their education. |

a) Behavior which requires "A Warning"
1) Rude or disrespectful behaviour towards the administration, teachers, staff or peers.
2) Disrupting the learning environment, courses or any school activities. Disregarding school or classroom rules.
3) Giving misinformation or lying to the school administration, making changes to or cheating on official documents.
4) Students who demonstrate inappropriate behaviour or who do not actively participate in ceremonies despite the fact that they are on school grounds.
5) Disobeying school rules with regards to clothing.
6) Smoking on or off school grounds.
7) Fighting at school.
8) Damaging the school's equipment.
9) Taking someone else's property without permission.
10) Damaging other students' materials or property on purpose.
11) Disrupting lessons or extracurricular activities.
12) Using school materials without permission for non-educational purposes or off school grounds.
13) Boarders who stay out after hours without permission.

b) Behavior which requires “censure”:
1) Rude and disrespectful behavior towards the administration, teachers, staff and colleagues
2) Disrupting the environment, courses and activities, or disregarding the rules of the school and in lessons.
3) Giving misinformation or lying to the school administration, making changes or cheating in official documents.
4) Students’ who show inappropriate behavior or who do not participate in ceremonies even though they are on school grounds.
5) Not obeying the school’s Clothing Rules.
6) Smoking on or off the school grounds.
7) Fighting at school.
8) Damaging the school's equipment.
9) Taking someone else's property without permission.
10) Damaging other students' materials or property on purpose.
11) Disrupting courses or extracurricular activities.
12) Using school materials without permission for something other than educational purposes or off the school grounds.
13) Staying out at night without permission in boarding schools require "censure"

c) Behaviour which requires "A Change of School"
1) Rude or disrespectful behaviour towards the administration, teachers, staff or peers
2) Molesting, insulting, slandering, threatening or harassing anyone or encouraging others to act in such a way.
3) Bringing dangerous or harmful objects to school or keeping them at school.
4) Starting a fire around or in the school grounds on purpose.
5) Using school materials for unauthorized purposes or making a habit of using them without permission.
6) Participating in political parties and trade unions or creating or displaying propaganda inside or outside school.
7) Collecting donations on behalf of any institutions or organizations.
8) Condemning or slandering people because of their language, race, gender or political thoughts and beliefs or participating in such actions.
9) Damaging someone else's property or making a habit of using their property without permission.
10) Destroying the school building, extension and enhancements, movable and immovable property deliberately.
11) Preventing the normal run of things within the school, classes, or preventing exams to be taken under good conditions.
12) Attacking school administrators, teachers and other staff within and outside the school and organizing or provoking such actions.
13) Staying out at night without permission in boarding schools or making a habit of it.
14) Whether in school or school lodgings, accommodating a person who has no connection with the school .
15) Completing another person’s test in their place, or taking the exam for someone else.
16) Using or promoting alcohol or addictive substances.
17) Insisting on breaking the rules regarding clothing requirements. Require a change of school

Our English Program
|
|
In Antalya College, our most important goal is to make our students develop a positive attitude towards English. Not only do they learn the language and are able to use it effectively, but they also gain critical thinking and learning skills whilst improving the awareness of the culture of the language.
Students use audio visual programs in our computer labs once a week which support their individual development in English classes.
Students who want to practice the language in a native speaking country, have the chance to participate in a language-school program in the UK or the USA, which lasts for 3 weeks. In addition to 20-hours English education per week, they can take part in full-day sightseeing tours, and social and cultural activities which allow them to develop practical English.
We are very proud and happy of the fact that we continue to achieve our goals. The certificates they get from the international language exams ,which Cambridge University organizes, are proof of our students’ success.
As you know, our school has been the sub center of the University of Cambridge since 1993.
Our students take the Starters exam at the end of the 3rd Grade , the Movers exam at the end of the 4th Grade, the Flyers exam at the end of the 5th Grade, KET at the end of the 6th Grade, PET at the end of the 8th Grade , and the FCE Exam at the end of 10th Grade. The Flyers test results are used to determine the students’ level before they start 6th Grade. Students who are successful in PET exams, are exempt from prep classes in high school.
In order to be excused from the prep classes at domestic and foreign universities, students must gain 500/550 points in the TOEFL exam at the end of 11th Grade in high school. Our English curriculum is implemented taking this aim and study program into account.
Students can open many doors to new opportunities with regards to their education and business lives by taking these exams gaining certificates as proof of their level.

Antalya College Teaching German
|
|
German is a language which has an ever increasing importance worldwide and as a second foreign language it is an emerging trend all over the country and in our school.
In the 2009-2010 academic year, there will be some innovations in German lessons.
- In our Elementary school(level1) German lesson are given by two Turkish and two German teachers from the beginning of 2nd Grades. The lessons are 2 hours for 2nd Grades, 3 hours for 3rd Grades, 4 hours for our 4th and 5th Grades per week.
- In our Elementary School( II. Level) students are set up as A and B groups according to their level and have 4 hours of German education per week according to their levels. At the end of the 8th Grade all students participate in the German Language Proficiency Examination to receive their certificates.
A level students take Fit 2, B level students take Fit 1 examinations which are provided by The Goethe Institute. The exams are held in two-sessions. If they are successful in the exams, students will gain a certificate, which is valid anywhere in the world.
- German lessons are given for 3 hours per week in our High School.
After in-depth reviews and positive reports, our school was granted permission to enter students for the DSD exam, which is a B1 level test in which our students participate to gain certificates at the end of 11th Grade. They are thoroughly prepared for this exam by our German teachers starting from 9th Grade.
German education in Antalya College is carried out by our component staff and completely updated in the computer labs.
After the yearly school trip to Nuremberg every summer, students come back to their country with a huge amount of satisfaction and happiness.
In the 2009-2010 academic year the school plans to send a group of students to The Goethe Institute Language Course or on a student exchange program in Germany.
In Primary school, students perform a "German Show" and have the chance to share their success with their parents in 5th Grade. They have an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt and how they use German in their daily life with great self-confidence.
